If you are interested in the history and/or current song repertoire within Jewish faith communities, check out “Let My People Sing!” They describe themselves in this way:
Let My People Sing! brings together singing traditions across Jewish time and space– from ancient to contemporary music, and everything in between. We sing in Ladino, Hebrew, Yiddish, Judeo-Arabic, Aramaic, and in languages from around the world— wherever Jews dwelled in diaspora, they sang, and we are still singing! Our project includes restoring lost or broken lineages of cultural and ancestral transmission, and simultaneously elevating, celebrating, learning and teaching the incredible new music coming out of our communities. Through this work we connect to our spiritual, familial and chosen ancestors, we heal trauma, and we deepen our human interconnectedness.

Music is life changing. And being a part of making music with others—from singing a favorite song at a concert with thousands to chanting together in a small circle—is transformative. The importance of communal singing and relational prayer is and has always been central to Jewish life. When Jews gather, it is expected that there will be music makers and leaders to provide the sounds and songs that makes those experiences meaningful and memorable. Sing Unto God (SUG) was created to help engender more of those kinds of experiences. We are the fusion of Judaism (Jewish values), Music, and Community, yeilding change. We are committed to creating immersive learning and leading opportunities through ongoing networks, fellowships, and conferences, informed by the needs and input of the community, and built in collaboration with experts in their field. We believe in elevating our colleagues and peers, showcasing new and diverse voices, and in keeping connected to current trends in songleading and worship.
